Sydney's Cruise Bar - Thursday nights
By Lulu
Who said the weekend starts on Friday? Not if you are in Sydney, and
definitely not, if you happen to be at Circular Quay's Cruise Bar.
Considered one of Sydney's premier waterfront venues, the Cruise Bar is jam
packed each Thursday evening with some of Sydney's finest salseros swinging
their hips to the best Latin rhythms - played only how world famous DJ
Dwight Chocolate Escobar knows.

From the moment you enter, through the Bar's wide, open doorways, you will
feel a tingle through your bones and will find yourself immediately
transported to another world. A world where salsa is king; where bodies
intoxicated with the rhythms are swaying and swirling nonstop; where all
your worries melt away and you feel as though you've finally found yourself
- and this has nothing to do with the huge selection of Cuban-themed drinks
on offer at the bar!

From his sound box on an elevated stage, DJ Dwight Chocolate Escobar reigns
supreme. His eclectic mix of salsa beats heat up both the dance-floor and
the crowd at large until the barometer is red hot. Passers by can't help but
enter and give themselves over to the music - and when DJ Dwight Chocolate
Escobar sees this, then he can't help but smile and turn up the heat a
little more...
The crowd is made up of hard core salsa dancers as well as those who enjoy
coming in for a drink and to watch the dancing.

"The feel of the place is just amazing," says salsa regular Mareejoseph.
"Show me another salsa venue on such a perfect harbour with the best mix of
music, people and views."
Equally enthusiastic are people such as James and Melanie, representative of
the non-salsa crowd who frequent the place.
"We aren't salsa dancers but we love coming here just to watch,"

"The DJ plays fantastic music, the people are really friendly and after a
few more drinks at the bar we really feel as though we are in Cuba!"
Cruise Bar has a long, rectangular shaped bar fronted by large indoor and
outdoor spaces perfect for dancing.
Rain, hail or balmy summer night, Cruise Bar is always filled to
overflowing.
"It's magical," says salsa supremo Fausto. "I love to rumba and Cruise Bar
has just the right mix of people who want to dance and have a good time."
Long time salsa regulars David and Catherine are equally positive. "We can't
wait for Thursday to come around because we know we have a classy venue with
a world class DJ guaranteeing us a fabulous night!"

"Club Mambo" at Hotel Chambers - Friday Nights
Hotel Chambers seduces the senses with Friday night salsa
Sydney's newest and possibly hippest salsa venue on a Friday night is now
open. Club Salsa has joined forces with Casa De La Salsa, the successful
team behind Thursday night's sizzling Cruise Bar experience, to bring you
Hotel Chambers in Martin Place.

"We guarantee a continuation of the red hot salsa nights Sydney's dancers
have come to expect from both Cruise Bar and Watershed," says Club Salsa's
Ben.
Oozing class and sophistication, Hotel Chambers offers a warm and sassy
atmosphere, evoking images of Cuban cigars, red wine and mysterious women.
Of course, the men are just as enigmatic, especially when they take you in
their arms and start serenading you with the charming steps of the salsa!

Sydney's salsa aficionados descended into Hotel Chambers on opening night,
and with DJ Dwight manning the box, there was no sign that the steady stream
of both salsa and non salsa clientele would stop flowing.
Leading the dance floor serenade were salsa identities Kian and Fausto,
whose smooth floorwork encouraged other male dancers to quickly join in and
strut their stuff.
Woe betide any female who was within proximity of the dance floor as within
minutes she was whisked away to join the heaving, teeming throng of dancers
whirling away to DJ Dwight's rhythms!

"How can one resist a great mix of salsa in a very elegant venue?!" says the
very elegant Fausto.
Sydney's own Artista Famousa (who sometimes answers to the name of Branka)
led the chorus of approval from patrons.
"It's trendy, it's soulful and it's an experience not to be missed!" Salsa
regular Nicole nods feverishly in agreement.
"I'm definitely coming back," says blonde bombshell Marta.
"It's great to have a venue that attracts a mix of people and not just salsa
dancers."

Of course, the dark red velvet couches, high bar stools, and flickering tea
light candles provide a comfortable seated environment for those who prefer
to observe and partake of Hotel Chambers' extensive wine and bar selection.
"Wine is to be sipped and not downed in one gulp," is the advice proffered
to one personality who couldn't wait to get back onto the dance floor. Good
idea, especially when the personality in question was found to be losing her
balance quite quickly.
"I heard Hotel Chambers was voted best bar for Seduction by The Daily
Telegraph's best bar guide," says the salsa community's most enthusiastic
supporter and mouthpiece, Mareejoseph.
Now that salsa has arrived, it remains to be seen how much more seductive
Friday nights can get.perhaps Mareejoseph may find herself that eligible
bachelor???
